Mission / Purpose: To bridge the gap between agricultural research and farmers by assessing, refining and disseminating latest technologies and providing advisory/training services to extension functionaries, farmers, farm women, rural youth and allied stakeholders.
Directorate of Extension Services (DES)
The Directorate of Extension Services (DES), Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya (JNKVV), Jabalpur, serves as the vital link between agricultural research, education, and farming communities across Madhya Pradesh. The Directorate facilitates the effective transfer of scientific knowledge, improved agricultural technologies, and innovative practices from the university to farmers, rural communities, and other stakeholders.
Through a coordinated network of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), the Communication Centre, and the Agricultural Technology Information Centre (ATIC), the Directorate promotes need-based extension programmes, capacity building, technology dissemination, and farmer-oriented services. These institutional mechanisms help translate research-based technologies into practical solutions for enhancing agricultural productivity, farm profitability, resource-use efficiency, and sustainable rural development.
The Directorate works in close collaboration with scientists, extension professionals, farmers, government departments, development agencies, and other stakeholders to identify field-level problems, disseminate appropriate technologies, and strengthen farmer–scientist linkages. Its extension initiatives encompass training programmes, demonstrations, field days, awareness campaigns, advisory services, publications, digital communication, and other innovative approaches to agricultural technology transfer.
With its integrated extension network, DES is committed to “Research to Farmer, Farmer to Research”, ensuring that agricultural innovations reach the field effectively while farmers’ needs and experiences are fed back into research and education. Through this continuous two-way communication, the Directorate contributes to building a productive, profitable, resilient, and sustainable agricultural sector in Madhya Pradesh.
Mandate / Key Functions:
- Transfer of agricultural & allied technologies to the farming community via participatory and direct extension approaches.
- Providing feedback from field to the research system for refining technologies.
- Capacity building of extension personnel, farmers and farm-women.
- Organising demonstrations, field-days, trainings, exhibitions, farmer rallies.
- Establishing linkages with line departments, KVKs (Krishi Vigyan Kendras), ATIC (Agricultural Technology Information Centre) and other institutions.
- Publication and dissemination of bulletins, leaflets, folders, use of print & electronic media.
- Organisational Network / Outreach Structure:
- Network of KVKs across agro-climatic zones.
- Agricultural Technology Information Centre(s) (ATIC).
- Regional / district extension centres.
- Diagnostic services teams.
- In-house units such as training institute, communication centre, print & electronic media wing.
- Future Plans / Vision:
- To establish e-connectivity and cyber-extension tools (touch-screen kiosks, single-window services).
- Establish an Agricultural Museum (or agri-science museum) on campus to display modern technologies and university heritage.
- Launch of community radio station for farm advisories and localised outreach.
- Exploration of public-private partnerships to strengthen technology transfer.
