The Department of Soil and Water Engineering started functioning as soon as the College of Agricultural Engineering was created in the year 1967. But it came into existence in the year 1974 and Prof. R. Shrivastava was appointed as the first Head of the Department. The faculty in the department is responsible for teaching the UG, PG and Ph.D. students. The basic Soil and Water Engineering courses are being offered to B.Tech. (Agril. Engg.), B.Sc. (Ag), B.Sc. (Forestry), and B.Sc. (Horticulture) programme. The PG and PhD programme were started in the department from 1983 and 2003 respectively. Both PG and PhD programmes comprise of course work and research. Department since inception has granted 184 M.Tech. and 30 Ph.D. degrees. First ICAR sponsored research project initiated during the year 1974 which was then transformed into AICRP. The department followed the mission of the University to impart education, research and extension activities effectively for enhancing production, productivity and profitability of agriculture and allied systems in a sustainable manner and for achieving sustainability of agricultural production systems and quality of rural livelihood in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
