Department of Horticulture was established in the year 1964 to strengthen education and research on horticultural crops. At this juncture MPARI sanctioned many state plan schemes to strengthen the research program on Horticultural crops. Later on ICAR established AICRP on vegetable improvements at Jabalpur and on potato at Chhindwara. At present several projects funded by ICAR, NHB and GOI are being conducted at various centres. Master’s Degree programme in Horticulture was started in 1965 followed by M.Sc. (Ag) Horticulture in Vegetable Science and Fruit Science at Jabalpur and Rewa campii followed by Ph.D. Programme in Horticulture (Fruit Science & Vegetable Science) started in 2007-08 at College of Agriculture, Jabalpur. Vocational Training Centre was established in Dryland Horticulture Research and Training Centre, Rangua, Garhakota, District Sagar in the year 2008. Two years diploma programme on Nursery Management and Seed Production was started in Rangua. Experiential learning programme in the Horticulture was initiated in the all campus of University.
