The Department came into existence on August 18th, 1980 with the establishment of Crop Quality Laboratory Scheme transferred from the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics. With the assistance of UNICEF, a new project namely Education of Food and Nutrition in Agricultural Universities was started in the Department for starting a new course Biochemistry and Food and Nutrition at Bachelor degree program. Master degree program as M.Sc. (Ag) Food Science and Technology was started in the year 1982 at Jabalpur with a total intake capacity of 12. The doctorate degree program was started in the year 2019-20 at Jabalpur with an intake capacity of 4 students. After the Implementation of BSMA guidelines of ICAR in the university the nomenclature of degree progamme has been changed into M. Tech Food Technology (Processing Technology) and PhD Food Technology (Processing Technology).
