Background

The Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics has its origin by partition of erstwhile Department of Agricultural Botany in 1969 to provide momentum for exploitation of genetic strength of field crops for enhancing productivity, profitability and sustainability of agricultural production systems and quality of rural livelihood in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Mission

The mission of the department is the genetic alteration of field crops for food and nutritional security.

Academic Programme

The Department offers Masters degree and Doctorate degree programmes in Plant Breeding and Genetics at Jabalpur and Rewa, JNKVV JABALPUR

Mandate

• To serve as a centre of teaching in the field of Plant Breeding and Genetics including allied sciences
• To serve as a centre of basic research in the field of Plant Breeding and Genetics including allied sciences
• To Improve genetic architecture and develop suitable varieties of various crops
• To maintain and produce quality seeds of different categories of crops and varieties
